ARINA SHARAPOVA ABOUT WOMEN AND MASS MEDIA
A meeting of the working group of the Eurasian Women’s Forum took place in Moscow. One of the topics covered was preparation of the forthcoming event. The Second Eurasian Women’s Forum is to be held in September 2018. Arina Sharapova, member of the working group, journalist, and TV presenter, thinks that it is important to devote one of the Forum’s discussion platforms to the role of women in mass media.
“Participation of women in media functioning is one of the main defining trends in global politics. A great number of women are engaged in the Russian media. We all understand how strong the influence of media on society is”, she said.
This is why it is so important to pay special attention to women’s role in the field mentioned. Arina Sharapova stressed that this topic could acquire political significance. As mentioned by the speaker, this discussion platform can be combined with another one that is dedicated to information security. Moreover, Arina believes that it is necessary to take into consideration how journalists highlight women’s issues in media.
“It is necessary for us to have a strong communication link with quality periodicals, magazines and newspapers of politological character. It is important that mass media cover more women’s success stories and articles about women’s achievements”, commented Arina Sharapova.
She noted that one should accumulate all those positive articles dedicated to women being published now and thus collect more information about women’s activities.
Arina Sharapova proposed holding special thematic conferences and round tables for journalists. She believes that the discussion platform will attract many media persons with whom it is necessary to build communication today.
Galina Karelova, Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council, listened to Arina’s proposals, agreed with them and said that measures in that direction of work were already being taken. A meeting of Valentina Matvienko with women leaders engaged in IT sphere is to be held in the near future. The participants will be able to share existing problems and talk on topics relevant for them. Galina Karelova believes that it is necessary to change the gloss image of women in media and come to a different one, showing women who achieved success through their own hard work. Such examples will inspire the readers and change their attitude to women.
