BEST VOLUNTARY ECOLOGICAL PROJECT WILL BE PRESENTED ON THE EWF
The Voluntary Marathon was launched within the framework of the preparations for the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum. Five leaders of the best voluntary projects were the winners of the first stage. They got an opportunity to participate in the upcoming Forum. Natalya Yakunina from the Primorski Krai was the leader of the best ecological project. She told about things that had motivated her to create that project and shared volunteers’ achievements.
Natalya mentioned that there are about 60 islands in Primorski Krai, 3 of them are situated on the territory of Vladivostok. Such a romantic atmosphere, picturesque beaches, and wild nature attract many tourists. However, there are more and more dumps due to the human impact.
This problem troubled Natalya. She is a journalist, photographer, and an active person. She decided to put an end to pollution of her region. In 2014, she launched a project Dream Island aimed at saving the purity on islands and removal of dumps.
There are many events regularly held within the framework of the project. Volunteers and local citizens take part in them. They take care of plants, pick up the garbage on the islands, and clean the territories. Natalya said that they pay much attention to increasing the environmental awareness level of people.
Great work has been done during the existence of Dream Island project. 15 big events have been held during 4 years of project’s activities. 700 volunteers from Russia and other countries took part in them. About 7.5 thousand bags of litter and more than 20 dumps were removed from islands. By the way, the volunteers sent about 40% of wastes in the recycling bin.
Natalya Yakunina mentioned that the project develops rapidly and has a good influence on ecology of the islands. However, they need to do more to solve that problem. Natalya’s participation in the Forum will certainly help extend the project. The coming event will allow her not only to present her project on the international stage but also share experience, find new contacts, and discuss topical issues.
The topic of ecology will be widely presented on the Forum. Nowadays women from all over the world put much effort to prevent or solve serious ecological problems. Of course, they have what to share with one another.
