‘Business Spring’ Women’s Business Forum

Orenburg united about one thousand successful entrepreneurs

On May 20, Orenburg hosted a women’s business forum titled ‘Business Spring’. The regional division of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Russia and regional government were the organisers of this event. The meeting became the continuation of activities on implementation of agenda started at the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum in Saint Petersburg.

About one thousand businesswomen from all over Russia gathered in one city for the first time in the business history of Orenburg Oblast. They discussed issues related to socially-oriented business, export, and resources for women’s entrepreneurship. The participants shared their experience in addressing professional tasks with one another. The event paid much attention to the topic of mentorship in women’s community.


The speakers and experts of the forum included Veronika Peshkova, UNIDO Goodwill Ambassador, Elena Myakotnikova, Corporate Director of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, OPORA RUSSIA, and Business Russia. Different foundations engaged in development of educational programmes in women’s business and grant support of projects also took part in the forum.

At the opening ceremony, Elena Afanasyefa, Senator of the Federation Council from Orenburg Oblast, presented her welcoming remarks. She delivered warm words of welcome from Galina Karelova, Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council.

During the plenary part of the forum, Elena Afanasyeva told about implementation of projects of the Council of the Eurasian Women’s Forum. The Senator emphasized that the work is under way every day.


The forum noted that the Federation Council and its Chairperson Valentina Matvienko played a significant role in development of women’s agenda that gained a second wind today.

Thanks to concerted efforts of governmental structures, business community, and development institutions, it became possible to promote women’s entrepreneurship to a new level in a relatively short period. Today, women have a number of opportunities and support mechanisms in business.

Over two years, the number of women entrepreneurs in Russia has increased by 20%.

The establishment of the Club of Women Parliamentarians became one of the key events at the forum. Women from different levels of legislative power from different regions of Russia were involved in the agreement.
