GALINA KARELOVA: RUSSIAN-VIETNAMESE RELATIONS ARE DEVELOPING
Galina Karelova, Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council, had a meeting with Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Chairperson of the National Assembly of Vietnam. The negotiations were held in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, on the eve of the opening of the 26th Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum session.
The meeting was attended by Konstantin Kosachev, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, and Konstantin Vnukov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia in Vietnam.
The State Duma was represented by Olga Yepifanova, Deputy Chairperson of the State Duma, and Elena Serova, Deputy Chairperson of the State Duma Committee for Ecology and Environment Preservation.
Galina Karelova mentioned that strengthening the strategic partnership with Vietnam is the main priority of Russia’s foreign policy in Asia-Pacific region. The agreement at the highest level about hosting Year of Russia in Vietnam and Year of Vietnam in Russia in 2019.
The senator also highlighted that the development of interparliamentary relations is a part and parcel of promotion of bilateral cooperation for a wide range of directions. The investment cooperation is one of the promising areas of interaction. It covers innovative industry, support of cultural and humanitarian relations, women’s entrepreneurship, tourism exchange, and development of contacts between regions and cities of Russia and Vietnam.
Galina Karelova thanked Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan for her personal participation in 137th IPU Assembly and acceptance of the invitation to participate in the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum, which will be held in St. Petersburg on September 20-21 in 2018.
The Chairperson of the National Assembly of Vietnam marked that Russian-Vietnamese relations are developing across a wide range of directions. “Russia is an old friend of Vietnam and we appreciate that”, she said.
Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan also said that there is a huge potential for enlargement of trade and economic relations between Russia and Vietnam. The Vietnamese side attaches great importance to cooperation in petroleum and agrarian industries and participation of Russian companies in infrastructure projects on the territory of Vietnam.
Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan expressed her intention to personally participate in the second Eurasian Women’s Forum.
The sides also discussed the mechanisms for cooperation in the framework of 26th Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum session.
