GALINA KARELOVA: THE EWF PROGRAMME HAS BEEN FORMED
The session of the Organising Committee of the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum took place on March 29. Galina Karelova, Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council, shared interesting information about the event’s preparation and programme.
The 2nd EWF will take place on September 20-21 in Saint Petersburg. The Forum lasts two days but the organisers decided to add the so-called ‘day zero’ for women from different regions of Russia.
This day will feature two discussion centres dealing with ecology and economy. There will be presentations of the projects by the winners of the all-Russian contests. The Forum’s preparation provided roundtables and the expanded sessions of women’s councils of the Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Industry, and that of Trade. The consultation services for women-entrepreneurs will also start their operation.
The main part of the two-day’s programme includes 35 discussion platforms covering relevant topics related to different fields of life and activity.
The first day of the Forum will start with a plenary session. The two basic sections of events are planned after that. They include international discussion platforms and strategic sessions about the role of women in politics, economy, human capital development, society, global health strategy, and ensuring environmental security. The international discussion platforms comprise special platforms by UNESCO and UNIDO, workshop by APEC, sessions of BRICS Women’s Business Club and G20, presentations of reports by the WHO, the ILO, and so on. As stated by Galina Karelova, the representatives of major international organisations will also join the process.
It is interesting that the second day of the EWF coincides with International Day of Peace annually celebrated on September 21. A large-scale action will take place at the Forum because of that.
The second day’s programme will keep on holding international platforms. In addition, it comprises discussions of different formats on local topics. Breakfast meetings, tea ceremonies, and other events will let the participants know one another better and learn Russia’s traditions.
According to Galina Karelova, the Second EWF will be different from the First one thanks to its larger scale and new formats. Interactive presentation platforms, exhibitions of export and innovation projects, art works by women, book presentations, fashion shows of new collections by women designers, Beauty Laboratory workshop, cooking show, and other events will take place as part of the Forum.
There will also be a traditional Public Recognition awarding ceremony. The awards will be given to outstanding women for their success in different fields. This year, the Forum may have a bigger number of winners, as there will be several nominations.
“We worked hard to ensure the top level of holding the Forum and make it an event that would find its continuation not only in Russia, but also abroad. We hope that the event will contribute to the unity of global women’s community and to the development of a constructive cooperation of Russia with other states”, said Galina Karelova.
According to the senator, women’s agenda is growing more and more relevant every day. The world is getting closer to the better understanding of women’s role in looking for responses to the challenges of the time. For example, it is impossible to struggle against social and economic instability without decreasing gender participation gap in economy. Today women’s issue is on agendas of all global events, including G20’s summits. Opposing the extremism and radicalization of population is an issue women can greatly contribute to as well.
