IRINA SLUTSKAYA ON SPORT VERSUS DIABETES
The Federation Council recently held the first meeting of the Organising Committee of the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum. Participants discussed the structure and plan of the event-to-be.
Among them was a famous Russian figure skater, a two-time world champion, seven-time Europe champion Irina Slutskaya. She is also a member of Moscow Oblast Duma and deputy chairperson of the Committee on Healthcare, Labour and Social Politics. According to her, many of recently launched projects are aimed at disadvantaged people. That is, of course, very important. However, much money could have been saved by prevention instead of treating complications. Irina supposes, that “sport and health go hand in hand. In that regard, it is most useful to invest our efforts in various types of physical activity that helps preventing any illnesses”.
For more than two years, Mrs. Slutskaya has been developing rehabilitation-aimed and prophylaxis projects related to all types of diabetes. She runs such projects as Stand Up and Run; Life Without Diabetes. Irina opens Nordic Walking Schools for People With Diabetes. Concerning the second Eurasian Women’s Forum, she would like to see sessions on healthcare, women’s health and national healthcare problems. Mrs. Slutskaya highlighted the fact, that “health is a basis which holds everything”.
Irina Slutskaya is planning to hold a Nordic walking training at the EWF.
