‘Leaders of Russia’: New Opportunities for Growth
Valentina Matvienko met with women leaders
On the eve of International Women’s Day, Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the Federation Council, hosted a traditional meeting with participants of the Leaders of Russia contest. They are women who achieved major success in different fields of activity. Galina Karelova, Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council, Aleksey Komissarov, Director General of Russia – The Country of Opportunities, supervisor of the Leaders of Russia contest, and contest winners of the last year also took part in the meeting.
Russia needs a new generation of managers who are educated and intelligent and can think creatively and keep up with the times. That is necessary for the country to make a breakthrough in technological, economic, and social development. A system of open selection of talented people and creation of a promising personnel reserve was launched by decision of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. Projects aimed at personal development of specialists are successfully being implemented today. The Leaders of Russia contest is one of them.
According to Valentina Matvienko, the project offers a range of opportunities for fulfilment of young people’s potential. It creates means of social mobility and provides governmental support to beginning managers.
Following the results of the first contest, 80 winners took leadership positions in executive bodies and governmental corporations.
As stressed by Chairperson of the Federation Council, the way to leadership goes not only through extended education and advanced training but also through experience that you obtain by learning from your own mistakes. To minimize risks, the project presupposes the institute of mentorship. Ms. Matvienko knows from her own experience how much mentors influence the lives of their students.
Last year, the Chairperson of the Federation Council decided to become a mentor to someone of the contest’s winners. As stressed by Valentina Matvienko, they can count on her interest, attention, and support.
For the first time, Russians living abroad managed to take part in the project. This year, 227 thousand of people from Russia and other countries became the contestants. It is pleasant to understand that the number of women among contestants is gradually growing.
“Many Russian women who have huge intellectual and creative potential, who are purposeful and committed to their work can and must become the new leaders”, says Valentina Matvienko.
Chairperson of the Federation Council stressed that Russian Women achieve major success in different fields of activity including those considered ‘male’ ones. Thus, women establish enterprises in manufacturing industries, master information technologies, realise export-oriented programmes, and become leaders in cross-border electronic internet-based trade. They are the most active in social, charitable, and volunteering activities.
As stressed by Valentina Matvienko, the Federation Council pays much attention to women’s social empowerment.
“Thanks to our address to the President of Russia in 2017, the National Strategy for Women was approved. I believe, the Strategy’s fulfilment will positively influence the development of our country”, she commented.
Moreover, the Federation Council makes serious efforts to promote women’s agenda in the international arena. The Eurasian Women’s Forum has been successfully held since 2015. Representatives from 110 countries and 27 international organisations took part in it last year. The Council of the Eurasian Women’s Forum was founded at the Federation Council to exchange experience and promote women’s initiatives and programmes at international, federal, and regional levels. Projects related to women’s entrepreneurial development, promotion of financial literacy of women, and women’s upliftment in industrial fields and digital economy are now being implemented on the basis of the Council.
Events aimed at development of women’s agenda are regularly held under the aegis of the Federation Council. The Second International Women's Congress of the SCO and BRICS States to be held in 2020 is now in active preparation.
The Eurasian Women’s Community news agency actively contributes to promotion of women’s agenda. The web-portal publishes inspiring success stories of women and covers the news of the key events. Residents of different countries are the readers of the EWC website, which makes it possible to make women’s success heard worldwide.
Today, a trend towards developing women’s leadership has appeared thanks to active comprehensive work in Russia and other states.
At the end of the meeting, Valentina Matvienko wished luck and victory to the finalists and happiness, peace, kindness, health and good mood to all the participants of the Leaders of Russia contest.
