MALAWI: HOW TO OVERCOME POVERTY
The Forum of Women Parliamentarians was held within the framework of the 137th IPU Assembly in Saint Petersburg. The EWC journalists managed to interview Mary Navicha, Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Malawi. She shared her point of view how to overcome poverty.
According to her, women will cause global changes in the world. To make it possible, women need support. The Republic of Malawi has different programs supporting women. For example, one of the main protects women from violence. Unfortunately, poverty prevents it from being fully implemented.
“We need to continue educating our children to have educated women in the future. Thanks to them, I am sure, we will develop the program that will decrease the poverty rate in our country”, said Mary Navicha.
However, good education alone can hardly improve the situation. In this regard, Mary hopes that women of Malawi will pay greater interest to the political life of their country. Now there are only 32 women out of 193 Malawi’s Parliament members.
