The diplomat presented the Forum at the weekly briefing
The Second Eurasian Women's Forum is a highly anticipated event all over the world. Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, spoke at a weekly briefing about the forthcoming large-scale international event. Representatives of more than 120 countries are to attend the Forum.
Maria Zakharova noted that the Forum boasts more than 40 events, including business sessions, panel discussions, business dialogues, thematic business breakfasts, expert and strategic platforms. The programme of the Forum meets the modern international and Russian agenda and covers a wide range of political, humanitarian and economic topics.
Russia will host its first ever Women 20 meeting on the sidelines of the Forum. Also, the event includes special sessions of UNIDO, UNESCO, the World Bank, the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance (http://bricswomen.com), the APEC seminar, the presentation of the report of the World Health Organization, the meeting of the business communities’ representatives from Russia, France, Germany, India and China.
A separate block ‘Women for Global Security and Sustainable Development’ consists of four strategic sessions and an interparliamentary dialogue. The discussions are to consider the trends in the humanisation of international relations, the contribution of women to the solution of topical issues of the global agenda, the attainment of security and stability in the world, legislative support for the expansion of legal, economic and social opportunities for women.
The ‘Promoting the Female Agenda: International Cooperation’ block is to focus on international cooperation, the role of international and interregional organisations, as well as trends in the development of female entrepreneurship and charity as an essential factor of social and economic growth.
Maria Zakharova also spoke about the Exhibition of women-exporters’ projects ‘Made in Russia: Women Rein the Export’, presentations of Success Stories, fashion-shows of Russian women-designers at the Forum.
The Forum is an event to promote the unity of the women’s international community in addressing the issues the world faces today.
Maria Zakharova paid particular attention to the presentation of the Internet portal ‘Eurasian Women’s Community’ when speaking with journalists at the briefing. This is an independent non-governmental media established by the Institute of the Humanities and Information Technologies on the initiative of its management, supported by employees and students. The speaker emphasised that the website publishes unique reporting on hot issues, interviews, analysis and photographs, that are available at no charge for media partners.
Maria Zakharova stated that in two years of operating the portal has posted more than 1000 original materials. In 2018 more than 1.5 million users have visited the website. The Internet site is multi-lingual and has an official English version. The readers' geography spans more than 100 countries: 35% – Russia, 25% – Europe, 23% – Asia, 14% – the United States.
Articles published on the web-portal inform the readers about the talents, achievements and activities of women, about their personal qualities and worldview. It is no coincidence that the motto of the portal is ‘Tell each other, so the whole world knows!’ Maria Zakharova noted the positive nature of the published materials. In her opinion, today we should forego the stereotype that good news is difficult to sell. “We live in a world of bad news fostering them with our attention,” the diplomat said. She also noted that the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum is to host an open discussion dedicated to the topic of shaping up a positive info sphere by joint efforts of people themselves, by exchanging the success stories, achievements, and their effect on our daily life.
