At the Forum of Women Parliamentarians held as part of the 137th IPU Assembly, the EWC journalists interviewed Intisar Alwazir, Member of the Palestinian National Council. She told them about the status of women in her country.
According to Intisar Alwazir, many women in Palestine are engaged in the field of education, they even outnumber men there. Palestinian women take part in the political decision-making process. Moreover, this country has a quota system that provides women with 30% of places in any organisation.
Palestinian parliamentarians are trying to achieve actual gender equality. Some fields of activity still require hard work. For example, many women in Palestine have higher education, but the level of their participation in economy is low. It amounts to 19%.
