SLAVENKO TERZIC: WOMEN IN SERBIA ARE RESPECTED
More than 150 countries took part in the 137th IPU Assembly in Saint Petersburg. Slavenko Terzic, member of Serbian delegation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Serbia in Russia, was one of the participants of this event. Interviewed by the EWC journalists, he spoke about the role of women in the development of Serbia and their place in his country.
According to Slavenko Terzic, women have always played a huge role in Serbia’s history. Today they are represented in all public bodies of the country. In Serbia, women occupy high positions, such as Speaker of Parliament and Prime Minister. There is also a good representation of women among ministers and members of government. Slavenko Terzic stressed that such a number of women on high positions and their presence at different levels of decision-making symbolized great respect for women in Serbia.
The Serbian Constitution and other laws guarantee complete gender equality. Men and women have equal rights and opportunities. Nevertheless, there is still a problem of gender pay gap. However, such cases are rare exceptions. The Serbian government actively works to solve this problem.
In his interview, Slavenko Terzic described Serbian women. According to him, in general they are clever, responsible, and purposeful. They manage to control even most difficult situations and find their solutions. They always can find a way to overcome an obstacle. In the speaker’s opinion, those are just a few of many reasons why women deserve respect.
