St. Petersburg recently held the Forum of Women Parliamentarians as part of 137th IPU Assembly. Lasse Andersson, delegate from Switzerland, told our reporters about local exhibitions supporting women and German adages that the Swiss gradually giving up on.
According to him, Switzerland holds ‘No Women – No Peace’ exhibition. It is based on UN resolution stating that women should participate in all bodies of government. The Swiss follow its ideals.
Mr. Andersson is sure, that “When women started to participate in the country’s management, our life became much more comfortable. It is great that we can treat one another equally”.
Delegate says that social freedom is the most valuable thing modern women have. In the German-speaking region of Switzerland there used to be an adage about women’s responsibilities – ‘Küche, Kirche, Kinder’ (‘Kitchen, Church, and Children’). According to Lasse Andersson, “women are now free, and now they can (and must!) participate in creating the world we all live in”.
