Every year Switzerland has presidential elections. Doris Leuthard became the head of state twice, in 2010 and in 2017. She was the third woman to become the President of the Swiss Confederation. She is extremely popular as a politician. Through observation of information in international media, we managed to collect more details about Doris and her activity.

Doris Leuthard studied law at the University of Zurich and then worked in a law firm for several years. Her career of a politician started in 1997 when she was elected into parliament as a representative from the canton of Aargau. In 1999, she entered the Swiss National Council. Before 2006, she was the leader of the Christian Democratic People's Party and then headed the Swiss Federal Council.

She performed active work while being the head of the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications. Doris Leuthard was the one who kick-started Switzerland’s plan to withdraw from nuclear power after the Fukushima disaster in 2011. While being the transport minister she contributed to world’s longest rail tunnel, the Gotthard Base Tunnel. She was elected with 158 of 183 Assembly votes. Her activity turned out very productive and useful for Switzerland. And a good proof of that is that in 2017 she won the elections and became the head of state again.

The politician contributed much to the development of international relations. In 2016, the innovative strategic partnership between China and Switzerland was established. The leaders of these countries announced 2017 to be China-Switzerland Year of Tourism. Switzerland and China agreed to continue cooperation in the fields of innovations, free trade and culture.

On May 14-15, 2017 Doris Leuthard took part in the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China. An interesting fact is that she got a personal invitation from Xi Jinping, the President of the People's Republic of China, while meeting him. The forum was dedicated to the initiative of creation of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. She highly appreciated the role of this event in the global trade relations.

Switzerland is a co-founder of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Now AIIB is a major investor for projects implemented within the framework of the forum. Doris Leuthard noted in her speech that her country has a great experience in the financial sphere. The politician expressed readiness for cooperation with China. According to her, Switzerland could share resources and financial intelligence.

It must be said that Doris Leuthard is the brightest figure in the life of her country. Once the journalists recognized her as the most popular politician in Switzerland. After that in newspapers and in public she was called ‘Queen Doris’ and ‘Superstar Leuthard’. By the way, from all the members of the Swiss Federal Council she is a person who has been on this position for the longest period. And it is another proof of her huge success in politics.
