VERONIKA SKVORTSOVA ABOUT MAIN QUALITIES OF DOCTOR
The first All-Russian Forum Mentor has been held in Moscow on February 13-15. It combined thousands of mentors and representatives of HR-departments of biggest state and business corporations, federal and regional authorities, and employees from NCOs and educational establishments. Veronika Skvortsova, Russian Minister of Health, told about role of mentorship in the sphere of Medicine.
She marked that people learn something new throughout their whole lives. This process is especially typical for doctors. It is extremely necessary for them to always develop. Their education starts in school and continues even after they obtain a diploma. “The Biomedicine develops quickly now. The information base on the main medical directions fully renews every three months. The doctor must keep up with all these things and learn more and more. That is why mentorship is very topical in our sphere”, explained Veronika.
The doctor is a professional who must know many things, be able to make decisions rapidly, and be ready to take responsibility for life and health of other people. Organised nature and striving for development are also highly recommended for people of this profession. It is very difficult to teach a person these skills. Maybe that is why we need mentors instead of teachers in our sphere.
Moreover, the doctor must be kind towards all people. Veronika considers education of doctors to be a very difficult process. The psychological contact between mentor and student is very important for this process. Only love and acceptance of other people can teach such things as modeling a situation, finding the way outs from it, overcoming the difficulties, and making decisions. According to Veronika, the mentors must be critical of themselves and their students. They need to develop and behave with the dignity whatever is going on around.
Minister of Health shared a true story. She told about her mentor. She met him when she entered a science club. Evgeniy Gusev is an academician, a Chief of Neurology in our country. Veronika says that he is a mentor for many people. He is wise, has a psychological delicacy, and can make his students be self-confident.
A true mentor must see weaknesses and complexes in their students and help them overcome these complexes without telling a person whom they help. She is sure that the sphere of Medicine needs such mentors.
