WOMEN’S AGENDA IN IRAN
St. Petersburg recently held the Forum of Women Parliamentarians as a part of 137th IPU Assembly. EWC journalists interviewed representatives from more than 50 countries. One of them, an Iranian senator, told us about women of Iran and state efforts for empowering women.
Our interlocutress highlighted, that nowadays women actively participate in political, economic and social spheres of society. Alongside with that, the state understands the role of women in developing society and strives for supporting them and promoting their interests. The senator told us Iran has recently implemented a law stating, that all institutions must consider gender equality factor while making any decision.
By the way, Iranian women take interest in politics. They often nominate themselves for elections in local authorities and Parliament. They become mayors, members of government and strive to make Iran a better place.
The senator mentioned that, according to official statistics, 63% of well-educated Iranians are women. They are also very modern and technologically educated, which is very important nowadays. Moreover, according to our interlocutress, women in Iran show high devotion to their families and are perfect mothers and wives. The ability to balance among household chores, caring about family, self-development, self-realisation, and professional responsibilities is a great talent. Iranian women are, for sure, very talented.
