Women’s IQ: Intelligence + Responsibility

Women’s IQ: Intelligence + Responsibility

Russian women contribute a lot for developing science. Nowadays they make forty percent of all scientists of our country. More than a half of universities’ faculty are also women. Besides, among people who have higher education fifty eight percent are ladies. Due to importance and need for support for women who have connected their professional activity to science, at the 13th of April Chairperson of The Federation Council Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko held a meeting with women scientists.

Such meetings with ladies who have made success in many different branches of activity do not happen for the first time. Valentina Ivanovna mentioned that such events are natural continuation of work of Eurasian Women Forum. They allow not only identifying current problems in any sphere but also finding ways of solving them.

During her speech Chairperson of The Federal Council paid particular attention to the “national diplomacy” theme. Valentina Ivanovna marked that scientists are the ones who act as the most effective peace ambassadors and strengthen international both science and humanitarian cooperation. That is why it should be recommended for the Government to include women scientists in official delegations which are sent abroad.

It is important to know that The Federation Council pays much attention to young scientists. Thus, within the framework of the International Forum “Intellectual Property – the XXI Century” the youth scientific-practical conference «Regional Programs And Projects In The Sphere of Intellectual Property From Youth’s Perspective» is held every year. This year the International Conference “The XXI Century: Intellectual’s Youth” will be held within the framework of the Global Festival of Youth And Students. And of course it is very important for young women researchers to participate in this event.

Within the framework of the event Lyudmila Ogorodova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Russia, the corresponging member of RAS presented her report. «Russia is one of the five countries of the world in terms of the number of women engaged in science, – the speaker shared the statistics. – This is a result of a purposeful long-term state policy of supporting women scientists». By the way, during the whole meeting Lyudmila Ogorodova was actively taking part in the dialogue by answering questions and commenting speeches.

In their reports the participants of the meeting touched various topics which are connected to science. Thus, Olga Dontsova, the academician of RAS, Head of the Department of Structure and Functions of the RNA Research Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology named after A.N.Belozersky of the Russian State University named after M.V.Lomonosov, paid the participants’ attention to the need of solving the problem which is connected to purchase of reagents for researches in our country.

Tatyana Chernigovskaya, Head of the laboratory of Cognitive Studies of St. Petersburg State University, presented a wonderful report about importance of the innovative approach to learning. «In the modern world the amount of information is measured in unbelievable quantities. It is almost impossible to fully understand it, to analyze it, - commented the speaker. – Even the high-quality machinery can’t solve this task. It requires people who went through multidisciplinary training and can think properly. We need to teach them to learn correctly, to cope with their emotions, to organize their memory, to concentrate and hold attention. But before that we need to observe a human brain to reach our goal». Moreover, Tatyana Chernigovskaya marked that it is important to remember about a great responsibility of scientists for what is happening in our world.

Irina Donnik, the academician of RAS, rector of The Ural State Agrarian University, spoke about the success which was made in agrarian sphere now. She noted that it is highly important to teach the students who are trained in agrarian higher education institutions to love earth and nature.

A theme about education of senior people was also discussed. Thus, Alexandra Budjilova, the academician of RAS and the principal of The Research Institute and The Museum of Anthropology of MSU, suggested supporting the ambition of senior people to develop their knowledge in new directions in any way. In her speech she also marked the idea to allow the aspirants of Russian higher education institutions working on probation abroad without leaving the place in their native universities at the legislative level.

Natalia Bagrova, rector of the Novosibirsk State University of Architecture, spoke about the importance of participating in social-oriented projects for students of higher education institutions. She noted that the activists who take part in different stocks often become social entrepreneurs and social innovators in future. Besides, such events which were held in Novosibirsk let the artistic and aesthetic level of citizens increase. In her opinion, this is one of the most efficient ways to bring up creative intellectuals who will understand their role and social responsibility.

Anna Scherbina, doctor of Chemical Sciences, Head of the Department of Commodity Research and Commodity Examination of the Russian Economic University named after G.V.Plekhanov, Vice-Chairperson of the Coordination Council for Youth in the Scientific and Educational Spheres of the Council of the President of the RF for Science and Education, spoke about motivations of women to connect their professional activity to science.

Among the presenters there were also young scientists who deserve no less respect and admiration. Thus, within the framework of the meeting Alexandra Kalashnikova, who is now already a senior researcher, Deputy Head of the laboratory of Physics of ferroics of the Physico-Technical Institute named after A.F.Ioffe RAS, associate professor of the Solid State Electronics Department of the St.Petersburg State University, presented her report.

By the way, not only the declared reporters got the opportunity to speak up, but everyone who wanted to. Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council Galina Nikolaevna Karelova attentively listened to all suggestions and wishes from women participants, commented every speech and promised that the senators will start solving all the problems that were mentioned. Thus, during the meeting women scientists shared their ideas about simplification of the procedure of purchasing materials and equipment for research, reduction of bureaucracy during the work in institutes, creation of kindergartens at large scientific organizations for employees’ children etc. Galina Nikolaevna marked that the resolution which was accepted by the end of the meeting will be addressed to the Government of the RF, a list of ministries and departments and also to the regional executive organs.

It is important to mention that women scientists excite not only due to their intellect, education and erudition but also because of their sympathy and love to their profession. The last meeting proved it once again.

Chairperson of the Federation Council thanked all women scientists for their big and important job, for creative work, energy and persistence. Valentina Ivanovna wished them much luck in their lives, new achievements and success for the good of the country and also suggested them to take part in the Eurasian Women Forum which will be held in 2018.

“Women do not only make science beautiful, - said Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko. – They promote a huge resource of scientific development of the country. And that should be taken good care of”.
