Women's Wisdom in Diplomacy
The International Congress of Women of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS Countries took place in Novosibirsk on July 3-4. It was devoted to the role of women in modern society including participation and cooperation in politics, economics, science, education and culture.
Andrei Shimkiv, Chairperson of the Legislative Assembly of Novosibirsk Oblast, greeted all the participants on the plenary session and thanked women for their active citizenship, unindifference and their ability to be a role model. According to him, with their work women contribute to achieving trust and mutual understanding between countries, bringing people together and strengthening international relations.
“Irrespective of religion, ethnicity and profession all women have a special ability. This ability in conversational Russian is called women's wisdom, and in terms of politics it is called diplomacy. I’m sure about it because many women including my colleagues proved me they have this quality over and over again”, he said.
Andrei Shimkiv noted that in the current convocation of the Legislative Assembly there were three times more women. In addition, the youngest member of the Legislative Assembly was a woman.
“Irrespective of age, social status, political views and any other factors the majority of women always actively express and promote their ideas, realize their potential and contribute to the development of the country and society”, he added.
Novosibirsk Oblast, where the Congress took place, has numerous active and successful women among which are doctors, teachers and farmers, the winners of various competitions. Novosibirsk women in science became famous not only in Russia but also abroad. Many of these outstanding women joined the plenary session of the Congress in Novosibirsk.
Andrei Shimkiv agreed with Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, that more things must be done in order to increase the role of women, to tell about achievements of women, promote their biographies and success stories.
In the final part of his speech Andrei thanked all those women present for their desire to take part in such events as the Congress and to change the world.
